October has been showing off this year — golden light, cool mornings, and fields that seem to glow just a little brighter before the first frost. As we transition from bloom season to tuber and root season, we’ve been savoring the last of the dahlias and preparing the farm for its winter rest. Here’s a little glimpse into what’s been happening at Bloom & Co. this month.
Community & Connection
We’re thrilled to be hosting something new and exciting this weekend! On Saturday, October 25, we’re partnering with PWHR and Atlas Wellness Coaching for a special meet-up at the farm. The morning will begin with a Pilates sweat session led by Atlas Wellness, followed by a floral design workshop. After moving our bodies and sharing a bite together, we’ll create hand-tied bouquets from the gardens.
What a beautiful reminder that tending to your well-being is just as important as tending to the garden. We can’t wait to come together to sweat, connect, and play with flowers.

From the Field: Saving Zinnia Seeds
As the flower beds fade, we’ve turned our attention to saving seeds for next year. Zinnias are one of the easiest (and most rewarding) flowers to collect seeds from — and saving them is a simple way to carry a bit of this season’s color into the next.
Here’s a quick look at our process:
-
Wait until the blooms are completely dry and brown on the plant before cutting.
-
Clip the seed heads and let them dry fully in a cool, airy spot for about a week.
-
Once crisp, gently separate the seeds from the petals and chaff.
-
Store in a labeled paper envelope in a dark, dry place until spring.
This small ritual of collecting and saving reminds us that the farm’s beauty never really ends — it simply takes a new form.
